Calder Suitcase Box

Sale price$2,500.00
This piece was created by Bode in honor of the centennial celebration of Calder’s Circus, in collaboration with the Calder Foundation and the Whitney Museum of American Art. First created in Paris in 1926, Alexander Calder’s Cirque is a portable miniature circus fashioned from wire, cork, fabric, and other materials—at once sculpture, theater, and performance.

This wooden box is a miniaturized version of Alexander Calder’s suitcases, used to store and transport the circus. It features period-specific ephemera and exact replicas of the original travel stamps, hotel stickers, and train tickets affixed to Calder’s valises, along with Calder’s painted signature.

Each item is unique; no two pieces are exactly alike. Please Note: This item is non-returnable. All sales are final.
