Liadain Warwick Smith's work contrasts the warm and traditional materials of hand-built earthenware and majolica with clean and contemporary forms. Before focusing on ceramics, Liadain studied fine art at Bennington College and graphic design at the School of Visual Art, and pursued work in graphic and book design. Born and raised in Greenwich Village, NYC, Liadain works out of her studio on Long Island and at Greenwich House Pottery.
For over 100 years, the Pottery has been a vital center for the teaching of ceramics in New York City. Venerable artists who have worked in Greenwich House Pottery classrooms over the years include Mary Frank, Simone Leigh, Peter Voulkos, and Betty Woodman-all of whom were featured in Making Knowing, Craft in Art 1950-2019.
